Construction and infrastructure investment. Global construction expenditure reached approximately USD 1.98 Trillion in mid-2025, up 7.4% since 2019. India's construction sector represented around 9% of GDP in 2023 and is scaling toward USD 1.4 Trillion, while China's construction sector holds a roughly 6% GDP share. Washed silica sand is a foundational input in concrete, mortar, specialty cement, stucco and asphalt.
Glass manufacturing pull. Silica accounts for more than 70% of the final weight of standard and specialty glass, and its chemical purity is the primary determinant of colour, clarity and strength. Approximately 98% of global soda-lime glass is produced from silica sand with iron content below 0.02%, and container, flat, automotive, solar-control and photovoltaic glass lines are all expanding simultaneously.
Solar PV and semiconductor buildout. More than 820 GW of new solar PV capacity is projected between 2026 and 2030, each gigawatt requiring roughly 4,500 tonnes of ultra-clear glass sand. Separately, over USD 380 Billion in semiconductor fab investment has been announced through 2030, consuming high-grade quartz for crucible linings, CMP slurries and photomask substrates.
Hydraulic fracturing intensity. Average frac sand used per U.S. horizontal well rose approximately 50% between 2017 and 2022, with longer laterals and denser stage spacing sustaining proppant intensity even when rig counts soften.
Water and wastewater treatment. Projected growth in annual U.S. water infrastructure capital expenditure from USD 37.2 Billion to USD 57.3 Billion creates durable, lower-volatility demand for filtration-grade coarse washed silica.
